Annual leave calculator Singapore

Your minimum annual leave by years of service, pro-rated for the months you have worked this year, counted the way the Ministry of Manpower counts it.

Quick answer: the minimum is 7 days in your first year, rising one day a year to 14 days from the eighth year. Leave is pro-rated as completed months ÷ 12 × your yearly entitlement, rounded to the nearest day. Four months on 10 days a year gives 3 days.

  • Who is covered: employees under the Employment Act who have worked at least 3 months. Managers and executives earning any salary are covered for annual leave.
  • Your year of service starts on your start date, not on 1 January.

How pro-rating works

Completed months ÷ 12 × your annual entitlement, rounded to the nearest day. Fractions under a half round down.

  • Example from MOM: 4 completed months with 10 days a year gives 3.33 days, which rounds down to 3.
  • Probation counts. Leave builds up from day one, though you can only apply after 3 months.
  • Unpaid leave is left out of the count. Your notice period is counted when you resign.

Common questions

How is pro-rated annual leave calculated in Singapore?

Completed months of service ÷ 12 × your yearly entitlement, rounded to the nearest day. Fractions under a half round down. MOM's own example: 4 months on 10 days a year is 3.33, so 3 days.

Can my employer forfeit unused leave?

Under the Employment Act, unused leave can be forfeited if you did not use it within 12 months of the end of the year it was earned, unless your contract says otherwise. Check your contract and your HR policy.

I resign mid-year. What happens to my leave?

You are entitled to leave pro-rated to your last day. Your employer can pay it out or agree to let you offset it against notice. See the notice period calculator.

Does this apply in Malaysia?

No. Malaysia's Employment Act 1955 sets 8, 12 and 16 days by years of service. A Malaysia version is planned.
