Notice period calculator Singapore

Find your last day of work from the date you resign and your notice period, counted the way the Ministry of Manpower counts it.

Quick answer: notice starts on the day you give it and includes weekends and public holidays. One month's notice given on 15 July ends on 14 August. If your contract says nothing, the minimum is 1 day under 26 weeks of service, 1 week to 2 years, 2 weeks to 5 years, and 4 weeks after that.

Your notice

Check your employment contract or offer letter for your notice period. It is often one or two months.

How notice is counted

The day you give notice counts as the first day, and weekends and public holidays count too. One week's notice given on a Monday ends on the Sunday.

  • Months: notice ends the day before the same date in the later month. One month's notice given on 15 July ends on 14 August.
  • Short months: one month's notice given on 29, 30 or 31 January ends on the last day of February.
  • In writing: notice must be given in writing, such as a letter or email.
  • Same both ways: the notice period must be the same for you and your employer.

If your contract does not state a notice period

The minimum notice depends on how long you have worked for the employer.

2 years to less than 5 years2 weeks

Salary in lieu and using leave

You can leave without serving notice by paying your employer the salary for the notice period, and your employer can do the same.

  • No CPF: CPF is not payable on salary in lieu of notice.
  • Our estimate: months of notice × monthly pay, or for weeks and days, pay worked out over the year. Your contract may set a different formula.
  • Using leave: with your employer's agreement, you can use annual leave to bring your last day forward. You are paid up to that last day. The calculator counts leave in Monday-to-Friday working days and does not allow for public holidays.

Common questions

How do I calculate my last working day in Singapore?

Count from the day you give notice, including weekends and public holidays. For notice in months, the last day is the day before the same date in the later month; if that date does not exist, it is the last day of the month.

Can my employer refuse my resignation?

No. MOM says every employee, including those on fixed-term contracts, can resign at any time by giving notice or paying salary in lieu.

Does sick leave extend my notice?

No. If you are covered by the Employment Act, sick leave taken during the notice period counts as part of it.

Can we agree on a shorter notice?

Yes. You and your employer can agree to waive or shorten the notice. MOM advises putting the agreement in writing.

Does this apply in Malaysia?

No. Malaysia's Employment Act 1955 has its own rules. Check your contract.
